Assalaamu alaikum [peace be to you],

to my brothers and sisters in Islam,
While browsing deviantART you may face some disgusting drawings or articles aimed to vilify Islam, spread filthy lies and ignorant misconceptions, slander the last prophet of the God almighty -peace be upon him- or simply propagate hate against Islam. You may feel the urge to defend your faith and show these people how wrong they are, you may feel anger towards these unjust accusations and you may not want to remain silent... So you want to do something about it.
I already talked about this before, but receiving many notes relevant to this subject makes me want to deal with it again.
Here in this journal and the next, in sha'Allah [God willing] I'd like to suggest to my Muslim brothers and sisters what I wouldn't do and what I would do in your place. this is based on my own experience. of course everyone is free to follow my advice or ignore it.

People always like to receive feedback for their work. they like to feel important. they like to feel that what they do has [a big] impact on people. the islamophobes who spread falsehood about Islam are no different. they like to get reactions for their work. they like to receive agreement and support from non-Muslims and they especially like angry reactions from offended Muslims. for them this proves what they already believe that Muslims are violent and aggressive. it makes them believe they are right. these people like to argue and they like to win. They enjoy receiving death threats (even if not serious) and curses. These give them the opportunity to look victimized and get sympathy and support. They like to keep the disrespectful comments of the ignorant and extremist Muslims in their page (as evidence) but they make sure to block the respectful and challenging replies of knowledgeable Muslims. they always block a Muslim if they feel his/her arguments are stronger than theirs. these people want to believe they are heroes (in their own fantasy minds).

So the first rule is I NEVER GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT. I don't put wood to the fire and I don't give food to the barking dog.
They want comments? I don't comment in their pages.
They want to see an offended Muslim? I never show any sign of being offended.
They want to see an angry Muslim? I never show any sign of anger.
They want to argue and debate? I neither argue nor debate in their page.
This makes them feel insignificant.
I don't allow the islamophobes to feel important. I like to make them realize that what they did is worth nothing. Because I know that the more reaction they get the more motivated they become to continue and make more anti-Islamic trash. the less reaction they get the faster they become bored and they will eventually stop, in sha'Allah.

Of course this requires a strong self-control from my side. IGNORING them means to fight the urge to defend Islam right away and to reply to their anti-Islamic filthy works or ignorant statements (in their pages). It means not to correct them (in their pages). not to argue with them (in their pages). not to debate with them (in their pages). let them remain with their misconceptions and mistakes. I know some of you may object and say "Don't we have the duty to correct people's mistakes and fight ignorance with knowledge?"
Indeed we have that duty in Islam. I do agree with you. but we have to choose the best and most practical way to do that. later in this article, in sha'Allah [God willing] I will suggest how to correct these people's mistakes and falsehood in the best way.
last and not least, I never link to these people's pages. Even if my aim is to raise awareness about them and let people know the bad thing in order to avoid it, linking to these people is doing them the biggest favor ever. I wouldn't want to advertise for them for free and make them famous, would I?

so this is what I don't do. in the next journal, in sha'Allah, I'll talk about what I do...
I hope this was beneficial

May Allah accept your fasting and worship and may he reward you well.

Wassalaamu alaikum

Correcting their mistakes is not the same as debating them, is that right?

still waiting for that other article..
I ignore the comments on YouTube too, I only answer questions if I see that no one has answered. I kind of feel obligated to. And if the video is about a sensitive subject that is bound to have hate comments [not necessarily of course], I sometimes say-may Allah guide you, that's all.

This remind me of a video,
it's about umm.. well, you can watch it.. i dont know how to explain.. ><"

This play is to study, what some public view of American people about Islam in general:
1 customer who play characters become 'racist'
1 cashier who plays the role of a Muslim

well, sharing is caring.. xD

I actually have a sorta-friend I know who still hates and generalize Islam as bad no matter how I explain to him that it isn't. Yet he doesn't have any complaints about Christianity which, from what I have researched, has many followers who are responsible for so much damage throughout history. It is sad, really.

Thank you for telling us that, i will do what you said, thank you !
and ramadan kareem :)
I think most people who try to attack Islam are trolling. I know this was the case with me, just wanting to get an emotional reaction. I had no problem wih you at all Nayzak. You did the right thing by not getting mad at me. I really admire you now for how you handled the situation. I think if more Muslims did that the world would see them in new light.

I salute your maturity. Many people wouldn't do this.
Bahamutia Featured By Owner Jul 14, 2013
If people gained this kind of mentality, I think we will give a much better picture about Islam overall. Because be it Islam or some other matter, it is childish to allow oneself to be troll fodder.

This doesn't only apply to misconceptions of Islam, this pretty much applies misconceptions in general. I have seen offensive things before so it's not hard to relate.

The problem with us is that we always talk before we think ! which result in angry reactions and threats !

Great ideas Nayzak. It always is best to ignore hateful posts and the users that create them out of attention or ignorance. I myself am non-islamic but I strongly believe that what you written is right and must be followed to avoid any unwanted conflict. Thank you for this post and for the many you've written and drawn in the past.
