Assalaamu alaikum [Peace be to you],

I get so many people (Atheists) recommending Richard Dawkins to me. and I thought I should explain why I do not have faith in anything coming form this man's mouth.

Richard went to visit some religious schools (Muslim, Christian...) and tried to prove that studying faith is bad for the children. He tried to prove his point even by lying. For me, regardless of the credibility of the information the students said, a man who can not transmit it faithfully should never be trusted. and the title 'scientist' is too big for him.

This wicked man is also famous of twisting the image of Islam (and religion in general) and spreading anti-islamic falsehood. He does not leave any opportunity in order to propagate non-belief. So be aware that he is one of the agents of Satan -cursed be he- trying to drag more people into hell. Do not let the title 'scientist' deceive you.

Regarding the above conversation, I Just want to make things clear:
"the Qur'an as a good source of scientific information". I believe the girls in the school were tricked by Dawkins statement into agreeing with him on a confusing statement. In fact, the Qur'an is NOT a scientific book. if someone wants to learn science, they don't go to the Qur'an, they take scientific books. but the Qur'an does offer some scientific hints. not as a scientific book, but as a divine book of signs. some are offered to point to certain phenomena for people to ponder and recognize the God through his amazing creation. but the Qur'an is not a source of scientific information in the sense of a scientific book. We Muslims do not consider it so. and there is no Islamic school using the Qur'an to teach science. keep this in mind.

Another thing, there is a big difference between "a good source of scientific information" and "a superior source of scientific information than evidence"
Here, Dawkins is caught red-handed trying to deceive people with his dishonesty in transmitting the information and twisting it. He is trying to imply that Muslims ignore any scientific evidences and blindly put the Qur'an over all. I think it is enough to know that the father of the modern scientific method was the Muslim All-Hasan ibn Al-Haytham, a very famous scientist from the Golden Age of the Muslim civilization.

Dawkins, you could have gotten away with your deception if you lived in an age where no cameras exist. but in modern world, words can be recorded, and your lies will be used against you. man, people are not stupid.

The disbelievers always try to vilify the true faith of the God, but their wickedness only comes against them. and Allah is the Greatest.
I pray to the almighty God to guide Richard Dawkins to the right path.
Ameen.

Say "Amen"

if you want to learn more about the phenomena of fresh water and salty water not mixing in the sea, please read [link] and [link] and search more about estuaries.

If I am right, it is from the God. If I am wrong, it is from myself.

After reading the two websites you suggested about estuaries, I've realized that you've left out one crucial fact. The reason Estuaries exist is because there is a constant supply of fresh water. Without this constant supply of fresh water, the salt content will eventually equalize. However, the constant supply of fresh water prevents this from ever happening. However, the fresh and salt water do mix. How? The water molecules, or a portion that don't evaporate, will mix with the ocean or sea, causing "fresh water" to become "salt water."

have you watched the new Debate between brother Hamza tzortzis and Lawrance krause (richard´s right hand man) ? it is funny how Leading Atheists like Lawrence or Dawkins try to talk about morality when they dont even have any Objective morality....

well, if I see here: [link], the words used are "two seas". Then clearly this verse is not talking about delta or estuaries, but literal two seas. because as you said yourself, Quran verse must be translated literally. If it means delta, then it would be written as "sea and river", not "two seas". and so far there are no two "seas", one is fresh and another is salty, where the waters don't mix.

the Qur'anic verse in question is:
وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ هَٰذَا عَذْبٌ فُرَاتٌ وَهَٰذَا مِلْحٌ أُجَاجٌ وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخًا وَحِجْرًا مَّحْجُورًا

the Arabic word used in the qur'anic verse is الْبَحْرَيْنِ 'al-bahrayn' (translated as 'two seas'). it is the dual (plural) form of بحر 'bahr' (usually translated as 'sea')

let's check the meaning of this word in the Arabic dictionary:[link]
here we find:
البَحْر : الماء الواسع الكثير ، ويَغلب في الملح
- bahr = big space of abundant water, usually salty.
مساحات شاسعة من الماء المالح الذي يغطي قسما كبيرا من الكرة الأرضية
- big spaces of salty warter covering much of the Earth.
المحيط : البحر الكبير ، الأوقيانوس
- ocean, very big sea.
كل نهر عظيم
- every big river.
ضِد البَرّ ، يَمّ ، وهو مُتَّسع من الأرض أصغر مِن المحيط مغمور بالماء المِلْح أو العَذب
- opposite of land. big space of Earth smaller than an ocean and filled with water, salty or sweet.
كلّ نهر عظيم " بحر النيل "
- every big river -example: bahr Nile (river)

I think, from the above definitions, we can clearly see that excluding estuaries and deltas from the definition of the Arabic word 'bahr' is wrong. because they are indeed spaces of water. The verse mentions two spaces of water. the translators needed to use English equivalents. but saying 'spaces of water' won't be too appealing, so they just used 'two seas' instead.
but 'al-bahrayn' could be two seas, two lakes, two rivers, a sea and a river, a delta and a sea, a delta and a river, a river and a lake... the verse clearly states that they meet. and this is a pointer that helps us to further understand. it also states that they do not mix. and that between them there is a بَرْزَخ 'barzakh'. this is an Arabic word that, checking the dictionary of the Qur'anic terms معجم ألفاظ القرآن الكريم (sorry I don't have it online. I have it as a book) I can read:
- barzakh is a separator between two things.
the verse also says حِجْرًا مَّحْجُورًا 'hijran mahjooran' which means forbidden to overpass or to be passed.
this simply means that these two waters, one salty and one sweet do not mix and remain in their state.

I remind you that the Qur'an is not a scientific book like biology or geography books. and it is certainly not an elementary school book. it is a book written in a high level of Arabic language. precise scientific definitions are not found in the Qur'an. what you may find are verses that can be interpreted into certain scientific facts. in order to fully understand the Qur'an, someone needs to understand the meanings behind each single word in the Qur'an in its original Arabic language.

but I do admit that translations have shortcomings and these prevent someone from fully understanding the Qur'anic meanings. that's why Muslims in past centuries focused more on explaining the Qur'an than translating it.
therefore, if you have any questions or need clarifications about any Qur'anic verse, feel free to ask a Muslim.

I hope this answers your question.

peace

It's ironic how atheists stick to each other, even in the wrong.

may the God guide you and correct your thinking, my friend. :D

But that portion of the Qu`ran is wrong in it`s wording.
Do you know Arabic? Did you read the Qur'an?

Unless you have information that trumps my university level knowledge of oceanography? Which I somehow seriously doubt.
I already provided links to articles that explain, in an easy way, the phenomena mentioned in the Qur'an.
you boast of your university oceanography knowledge and yet you neglect a link in a small paragraph. your appear to follow the steps of your friend Dawkins.

and I notice you use the word 'idiotic' in every comment of yours. I do not really mind your choice of words. it only shows the size of your own brain. But I'd like to let you know that Islam teaches me to be civilized and respectful by not insulting people even when I disagree with them. my beloved prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him- was reported to have said: "He who believes in Allah and the last day (judgment day) let him say good or keep quiet"
knowledge is supposed to humble people, not make them arrogant. a humble uneducated person is better than an arrogant university student.

Peace

Where have you provided these links?
in DeviantART, under the artwork, there is an area called "Artist's description". it is where artists write things to be read. in that area, I provided links for those interested to read more.
perhaps totally-dead people can not see my description. I don't know.

then you are completely wrong. Yes there is a minor barrier phenomenon that is observable, but it still mixes eventuallyd
I don't need to say a word. I just quote Kenn Oberrecht from the link I posted above:
"By definition, an estuary is a moving, dynamic body of water where fresh and salt water meet. Because of characteristic differences between salt and fresh water, however, the two don't always easily blend. Sometimes they don't mix at all, but instead stratify or form layers."
You can go and ask your teachers in university if you want to learn more.

Which means that you get Muslim kids believing in some miracle substance barrier that stops all sea water ever mixing with river water.
Well, I do not expect a non-believer to acknowledge a divine miracle.

Might I add that this does not lend anything much to the... Proof of divinity of the Qur`an.
Don't make allegations and judge a book by its cover. if you want to judge the Qur'an, read it first. get a good translation with commentary and footnotes, and read from page one with open-mind and willingness to find the truth. if after reading it, you found discrepancies, in that time, you can make your claims.

It is even speculated that Ancient Mesopotamians may have known about this phenomenon.
did you check this? did you proved it? don't use words such as 'speculated' and 'may' when you make claims. because it makes you look unscientific. If you managed to prove your above statement then could you please enlighten me with testable proofs.

I will leave your rather boring judgements of character as what they are.
Character is very important for me. a civilized person is known from his words and behavior. Islam teaches us to be civilized and polite people. that's why you never find a good Muslim using foul language and disrespectful words. this is why I am proud to be a Muslim. I invite you to look at the Islamic etiquette. who knows, you may even learn a little to improve your impolite behaviors in discussion. :D

I pray to the Almighty God to guide you and correct your thinking.
